Winner of the Ultimate Bust Challenge 2020

This online competition took place in December 2020 on the Facebook group ‘Resin Maniacs’, it was open to everyone. The rules were simple: paint a bust of Angelique (made by Black Heart Models) and post it for the public to vote for the best.

Thirteen entries were submitted and with a total of 113 voters I ended up first with 41% of the votes.

Norbert Ossner (founder and administrator of Resin Maniacs) and George Stephenson (CEO of Black Heart Models) have been active in the resin kit community for years, especially during WonderFest USA (one of the biggest events). There, you will find George with his company Black Hearts Models which produces and sells amazing resin kits .

‘Awesome!’ — Apikitt Meechan

Apikitt Meechan is the sculptor of the Prometheus Engineer resin kit.

He is a creature designer from Thailand, who sculpts and produces his own resin kits. He is highly esteemed among sculptors and fans of the xenomorph genre due to the elegance, organicity, and verisimilitude inherent in his creations. His portfolio boasts an impressive array of characters and creatures from Alien, Predator, and Lord of the Rings.

 

 

‘It’s really something!’ — Marco Plouffe / Keos Masons

Marco Plouffe is an Art director, artist and co-founder of Keos Masons in Canada. He is the sculptor of the Rockerbot and Hamoth.

He has worked as a character artist for video game companies such as THQ, Bioware, Eidos and has freelanced for many other major studios such as Sideshow and Prime1. He is currently releasing his own line of statues, Neo-Apocalypse, in collaboration with XM Studios. Neo-Apocalypse has a very well thought out and interesting lore. His work on hard surface is simply incredible: realistic with intricate detail.

 

 

‘Insane job! Simply amazing.’ — Abner Marin

Abner Marin, from Spain, is the sculptor of the Dog Alien, and also the sculptor of Angelique.

With over 20 years experience as a 3D artist specialising in creature design/modelling, he has worked on films, video games and commercials. Clients include Legendary Pictures, Hasbro Studios and MPC. His work on Caracolilla, a 3D sculpt, shows an impressive attention to detail.

 

 

‘I’m speechless…’ — Nivanh Chantara

Nivanh Chantara is the concept designer of Hamoth.

He is a full-time freelance Senior Concept Designer who has worked for Eidos Montreal, Image Comics, Media Right Capital, Revision Military, Dreamworks, The 20th Century Fox.
He has been the concept artist for films such as ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’, ‘Ghost in the Shell’, ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ and ‘Dune’.

 

 

‘Happy to share this great paint’ — Beesub

Beesub is a French freelance sculptor, graphic artist, creature designer and art director. He has worked for Queen Studios Collectibles, sculpting an amazing bust of Big Chap (from Alien). He has also worked as a sculptor for Coolprops and as a graphic designer for Keos Masons. He is a real specialist in everything related to the Alien franchise.
He also produces his own resin kits based on his own creature designs, most recently focusing on the “Medic Runner”; one of his latest concepts.

 

 

‘Dope!’ — Dela Longfish

Dela Longfish is currently the head of the character concept team at Sony Santa Monica Studios.
He started as a concept artist at Sony PlayStation in 2005. He then joined LucasArts in 2006, working his way up to Senior Concept Artist, where he stayed for 7 years. He then worked briefly on Star Wars Episode 7. He then joined Sony’s Santa Monica Studios in 2013. He became Lead Character Concept Artist on the God of War franchise in 2018. Most recently, he led the character concept for Ragnarok.

 

 

‘Incredible job’ — Cyril Roquelaine

Cyril Roquelaine is a traditional and 3D sculptor from France.
He has worked for Toulouse’s Capitol, the video game company Blizzard, Matières à penser, Fantastic’art. With 20 years of experience in his field, he has sculpted figures of many scales, including 56mm board game figures.
He also teaches anatomy and volume in traditional and 3D sculpture.

 

 

‘Beautiful!’ — Entennstudio

Máté Jakó is a London-based, award-winning illustrator from south-eastern Hungary. He began a long career in theatre and film as an actor before turning to illustration. Máté currently works as a freelance illustrator. His clients include Alexander McQueen, Sideshow Collectibles, Chris Nelson FX and VVDFX, creating concept art/creature design for film and video games. His work has been featured in prestigious publications including: Spectrum, Imaginefx and 3D Total Sketching. His work has been exhibited in galleries such as Nolia’s Gallery, Copro Nason Gallery and WowXwoW.

Enaibi is a French artist, mangaka and sculptor.
Passionate about Japanese animation, Enaibi quickly developed a mastery of drawing. Her work enabled her to become one of the pioneers of manga in France at various fairs, while her sculptures of Ball Jointed Dolls brought her real fame. After working for a major animation studio, her manga ‘Horion’ is currently published by Glénat.

Adafruit was founded in 2005 by MIT engineer Limor “Ladyada” Fried. Over the past 10 years, Adafruit has grown to over 100 employees in the heart of NYC with a 50,000+ square foot factory. I have used some of their products on various projects and have always been happy with them.
